I’m big on re-purposing things rather than contributing to our mammoth landfills any more than I absolutely must. I decided that a white board in my office would help me track goals in a place where they stay in eyeshot, and help me and my family know at-a-glance what I have going on in a given month. I just happen to have an old whiteboard that hasn’t been used since August 2009. Don’t judge me, but I know this because that month and year were still filled in on the board along with all the events and notes from the last time I had it this together.
I had actually tried Windex and other similar cleaners in past efforts to once again make the thing usable, but to no avail. The ink didn’t even smear, the paper towel gliding over it like it was permanent marker on a kitchen wall. Since I’ve gone chemical free, I’ve tried several variations on my DIY cleaner with vinegar, lemon juice, and various essential oils. I even tried dōTERRA Lemon Essential Oil in one of these cleaners. It got about half of the ink off, which is impressive given the length of time it had been there and my prior unsuccessful attempts, but just couldn’t get the job done entirely.
Last night a friend suggested I try the oil neat. I figured a powerful detoxifier that can eat through a Styrofoam cup (just goes to show that Styrofoam is nothing but toxins) just might do the job on its own. Lemon essential oil is also a powerful degreaser, so I gave it a shot. Boy did it work! With minimal rubbing it even removed those annoying shadows that old whiteboards develop after months of heavy use, and I'll have something in my arsenal for the marked up kitchen walls I know are in my near future.
The shadows of the past are gone and I am left with a clean slate to record new goals, a lovely scent, and a fresh start for my business. The scent of dōTERRA Lemon Essential Oil just might be an eternal reminder of how I started over and cleaned the toxins out of every part of my life, personal and business alike.
*There are many brands, both less expensive and more costly than dōTERRA, of essential oils on the market. In my experience using many of these brands, the dōTERRA oils are of the highest quality. Each oil is sourced organically from the parent plant’s country and region of origin (and/or region best suited for cultivation) and distilled with the highest standards of purity and safety. There is currently no regulatory purity rating system in place for essential oils. In order to ensure the highest product standards, dōTERRA registered its own trademark, Certified Therapeutic Grade™. This is currently the highest rating for purity and safety of essential oils in the world, and only dōTERRA offers oils of this grade. The dōTERRA oils are the only essential oils on the market suitable for internal use.
